Brass Varalakshmi Amman Mugam 9 Inch
Description
Brass Varalakshmi Amman Mugam 9 Inch - Goddess Face Mask for Varalakshmi Vratam and Home Puja
This exquisite Brass Varalakshmi Amman Mugam is a premium devotional face mask of Goddess Varalakshmi - the boon-granting form of Goddess Lakshmi revered as the supreme bestower of all eight auspicious blessings (Ashta Aishwarya). Crafted in 180 grams of solid brass with rich red enamel highlights and golden mirror-polished finish, this 9 inch tall Mugam is the centrepiece of the sacred Varalakshmi Vratam ritual performed by South Indian women on the Friday before the full moon in the Tamil month of Aadi (July-August).
The Mugam features a distinctive wide flared bell-shaped crown (Kireedam) that broadens gracefully from the apex downward - with a round pointed Kalasha finial at the very top, stacked cylindrical band mouldings, and an ornate diamond-lattice and floral scroll relief band across the mid-crown. Below the crown, the Goddess's hair falls in two thick braided tresses on either side, with small circular ear ornament caps visible beneath. The full red enamel face bears a jewelled forehead Tilak (Pottu/Bindi) with a pointed Vel-tip Tilak mark, wide compassionate eyes with golden brass highlights, a straight noble nose, and full lips in a gentle, serene smile. Wire hanging rings at each side of the crown allow for Jhumka earring attachment. A multi-strand collar necklace is rendered in raised brass relief at the neck. The entire assembly sits on a wide flat-bottom flared trapezoidal base for stable free-standing placement on any altar surface.

Spiritual Significance of Varalakshmi Amman
Varalakshmi (lit. Vara = boon/blessing + Lakshmi = Goddess of wealth and auspiciousness) is one of the most auspicious and beloved forms of Goddess Lakshmi worshipped across South India, particularly in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and among South Indian diaspora communities worldwide. She is the Goddess who grants all eight forms of wealth and auspiciousness - Ashta Lakshmi - including wealth, health, knowledge, courage, victory, progeny, food, and beauty. The Varalakshmi Vratam (sacred vow/fast) is one of the most important annual Goddess rituals in South Indian Hindu tradition, performed by married women on the Friday before Pournami (full moon) in the Tamil month of Aadi. The Mugam (face mask) form of Varalakshmi is the traditional centrepiece of the Varalakshmi Vratam altar - the Mugam is ceremonially dressed, adorned with fresh flowers and jewellery, installed on a kalash (pot), and worshipped with elaborate Abishekam, Aarti, and Naivedyam. Installing a Varalakshmi Amman Mugam in the home puja room throughout the year brings the Goddess's continuous blessings of wealth, health, and all-round family auspiciousness.

For Varalakshmi Vratam: Install the Mugam on a Kalash (brass or clay pot) filled with raw rice, topped with a coconut and mango leaves, draped with a new yellow or red silk saree or cloth, and adorned with fresh jasmine garlands, rose garlands, and gold/silver jewellery. Place the dressed Varalakshmi Mugam Kalash on a raised platform (Peetham) in your puja room or hall, facing east. For year-round home puja: place on the east or north wall of your puja room at or above eye level. Care and Maintenance
Wipe regularly with a dry soft cloth. Apply tamarind or lemon juice paste to the golden brass areas (crown, base, wire rings) to restore the shine, rub gently, rinse with clean water, and dry thoroughly. Do NOT apply acidic paste to the red enamel face - clean the red enamel only with a dry or barely damp soft cloth. Handle the wire hanging rings gently. After Varalakshmi Vratam, carefully remove all flower garlands and cloth before storing. Do not submerge in water or use harsh chemical cleaners.
